Ever heard of FREE RADICALS? They cause skin damage!

Trust me! This is not one of those "free" things that you want, but unfortunately most of them are hard to avoid.

Some examples of free radicals are:

  • ultra violet radiation (from the sun)

  • alcohol

  • smoking

  • poor nutrition

  • stress

  • environmental pollution

  • medications

  • air conditioning and heaters

  • the blue light from our computers and devices

  • and more!

Free radicals attack our cells causing oxidative stress which can appear on the skin as fine lines, wrinkles, dull uneven skin tone, texture, pigmentation, and sagging skin. If you are presenting with an accelerated appearance of these symptoms due to free radical damage, then you are experiencing 'premature aging'. This is the effects of 'growing older' happening earlier in life rather than the natural process of aging. Essentially, when someone looks older than they actually are.

So besides doing the obvious like quitting smoking, reducing alcohol consumption, consuming more nutritious food, and changing some bad habits. Here are some tools your skin needs to fight back against free radicals.

SPF! You already know why its important to wear sunscreen when spending long periods of time outside. Even if you're in the shade wearing a hat. You should still be using a physical sunscreen and reapplying regularly. But if you plan to spend most of the day inside, you should still be using a moisturiser containing SPF!

If you're driving in the car, hanging out the washing, grabbing the mail from the letterbox? Wear it! UV rays can even travel through windows and reflect off the surfaces around you so give your skin the protection it needs.

I recommend Ultraceauticals Ultra UV Protective Daily SPF50 Moisturiser. They have a hydrating option for dry skins and a mattifying option for oily skins.

And finally, ANTIOXIDANTS! They can be found in your food AND in your skincare such as Vitamin C. I recommend Ultraceuticals Ultra C Firming Serum and their Antioxidant Complex.
